Most of all, it is the smile on your face after a sumptuous meal enjoyed with good company. It is the warm, Filipino way of life! Festive Filipino cuisine and friendly service for more than 50 years Sixta Evangelista Ongpauco was a food lover, a great cook and a woman of sound business sense. Mama Chit, as she was affectionately called, loved to cook for her friends and family at her home on Highway 54 in Caloocan. In 1958, Mama Chit officially opened her home as Barrio Fiesta, one of the country’s first fine dining restaurants. Created the Crispy Pata and popularized the Kare-Kare Barrio Fiesta’s special way of preparing Crispy Pata (specially prepared pork knuckles fried to a golden crisp) makes Barrio Fiesta an early innovator in the local restaurant scene. Paired with the Filipino specialty Kare-Kare, the specialty drew crowds to the first of many restaurants Mama Chit and her family would open. With the help of her eight children, Mama Chit expanded Barrio Fiesta to numerous branches nationwide and in other countries. Corazon Ongpauco Tamayo heads Sixta Foods, Inc. which currently owns and manages Barrio Fiesta Greenhills on EDSA. Sixta Foods, Inc. also owns and manages Fiesta International Catering, a full-service catering company that has been offering an array of international cuisines, elegant dining set-ups and value for money since the 1980s. |
